29-year-old Chadta (Diljit Dosanjh), a small-town photographer, is searching for a wife and facing family pressure to settle down with a wife and children. Vanjali (Neeru Bajwa), a Chandigarh wedding planner, is not in a hurry to get married despite being 31 years old and makes her first career. After the two meet professionally in a wedding, Chadha falls for Vanjali and tries to woo her, but Vanjali refuses her pastorality. Eventually, he decided to remain a bachelor until Chadha's love struck Vanjali. After some winds in the road, the two eventually find each other.

Diljit and Neeru may have reunited after four years, but this hatus did not remove the on-screen chemistry between the pair. When Diljit, who plays the role of a bachelor (Shada), introduced his romantic acting, it proves that the man rules Punjabi cinema despite being strayed (for good reason) in Bollywood. And Neeru, despite a few years of her marriage and daughter's birth, is as refreshed in Vanjali as she was in the Jatt & Juliet franchise. While effortlessly blending into the character of a contemporary woman, conscious of consuming alcohol in public, Neeru portrays Vanjali with rough disdain towards a rural boy in Chadta in the first half of the film, who Later she presents her affection. Portraying unmarried people who border at the age of 30, Punjabi cinema has opened the script to explore themes that have so far been related to our modern existence. Chadda, while chasing his love, stepped back against the jamboree of Punjabi weddings steeped in traditional customs, adding grandeur to the film. After Gambhir Sajjan Singh recruits, Diljit is surprised as he talks romance with his eyes, an accomplishment he clearly finds perfect. The screenplay is tight and the editing flawless, pointing to the maturity of production in Punjabi films. Though the music does not bother you for long after it has been released from theaters, the title track in the voice of Diljit is iconic (reminiscent of Chamkila's time) in a true bucolic Punjabi setting. Notable among the character actors are Anita Devgan as Chadha's mother Jagadit Sandhu, a dim-witted village boy.
Overall, Shadata is a fresh, modern take on the old concept of romance, promising to bring back optimism in love.
