Dolittle hollywood movies Reviews
John Dolittle (Robert Downey Jr.) leads a happy life as a physician and veterinarian, living in Victorian England on a large estate with rescued and adopted animals. But when his wife Lily dies, he becomes a man, cutting himself off from human interaction. During that time, Dolittle improves his communication skills with animals. But when the queen becomes seriously ill, she is once again on duty, and the future of the estate is at stake. Dolittle and her animal companions must go on an adventure to save the queen and her house. The film begins with a lot of promise, especially as we get acquainted with John Dolittle and his crew of animals. Each creature is given a different personality and role to play within such a strange family. They are all naturally attractive due to the visual designs that embody their features, and thanks to the voice actors playing them. Standouts include Emma Thompson as Pauly - a maternal figure for Dolittle; Kumail Nanjiani as Plimpton - Dolittle's reluctant and often cowardly steed, and Octavia Spencer as dub-dub - Dolittle's assistant JoeVegetable mistakes for your medical equipment. Antonio Bundares and Michael Sheen are chewing their scenes as the colorful king Rasauli and the textbook villain Mudali respectively. It is easy to see how these quarrels go on and make countless jokes, and the film certainly has a lot of them. Not all of them work, but they often bring a smile to their face, if not outright laughter.
But, the film prefers to rely on it rather than engaging plot to keep the audience invested. There is not much character development to speak, which is a huge opportunity given all the talent. This is evident with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. Despite the actor's undeniable charisma and his feisty appearance, Dolittet's arc is remarkably under-explored. The problem seems to lie with Stephen Gagan's vision as a director, who appears to deal with the redundancy of the characters, weaving a narrow narrative out of its depth. Additionally, the patchwork is fairly clear as Reshoots and Redubbing are out of sync with Downey Jr.'s dialogues. Technically and the screenplay aside, Tonight is fun and bubbly, and as far as a family film is concerned, sure Dolittle is sure to be a hit with children who seem to be the film's target audience.
